Free plan vs 7-day trial
QR.io has no free plan. Its help center says the trial lasts 7 days and lets you create static and dynamic codes. When it ends, dynamic codes are paused and you lose access to scans and statistics; static codes keep working. Even the generator on its home page asks you to create an account before you can download.
linqr's Free plan has no trial. You get 3 active dynamic codes, unlimited scans and link changes, logo, colors, shapes and frames, SVG and PNG files and basic stats, with no card. The codes have no expiration date; see QR codes with no expiration date.
A trial is fine for testing, but don't print its dynamic codes on anything that must work after day 7. A paused code on a flyer can't be fixed without paying.
What happens to codes when you cancel
QR.io's refund policy says that once you cancel, your codes go into paused mode and you can activate them again whenever you resubscribe. That's a fair model for a subscription, and reactivation is useful, but a printed code stays paused for as long as the subscription is inactive.
