QR codes for Austin businesses and events
An Austin QR code works best when it points to something that changes: tonight's lineup, this week's food truck location, a festival day schedule. With linqr you paste that link into the creator on this page, download the code for your poster, trailer window or badge, and later change where it points without printing anything again.

What makes QR codes useful in Austin
Austin runs on things that move: bands booked night by night, food trucks that relocate, pop-ups during festival weeks, and startups that rename a product between two demo days. A static code locks one address into the pattern, with no way to change it after printing. A linqr code holds a short link (onsonara.com/q/…), and you decide in My codes where that link sends people, as often as you like, including on the Free plan.
To be clear about what we are: linqr is a web tool that anyone can use from any city, and we have no local office or partners in Texas. This page collects ideas that fit how Austin actually works, from Red River stages to trailer parks off South Congress.
Live music venues and bars
For a venue, one code by the door can open the calendar for the whole month, and you never reprint the flyer when a show is added or moved. Clubs along Sixth Street and Red River change their bills constantly, so the printed code should stay put while the page behind it updates.
- Door and bar posters. Link to your show calendar or ticketing page. Frame text like “SCAN FOR TONIGHT” tells people what they get.
- Band merch tables. Musicians can point a code to their streaming profile during the set, then to a mailing list sign-up after the last song.
- Tip jars. A code on the jar can open the band's payment page. linqr doesn't process payments; it only opens the link you choose.
- Drink menus. Craft cocktail lists shift with the season. The menu QR code guide covers table cards and sizes.
Venues are dark. Test the printed code under the actual stage lighting, and pick a high-contrast preset rather than dark-on-dark colors.
Festival weeks: SXSW and ACL
Festival weeks reward preparation: print your codes early and switch their destinations as the week goes on. During South by Southwest in March and Austin City Limits in the fall, businesses near the action often run showcases, pop-ups and special hours.
- Before the week. The code opens an RSVP form for your unofficial showcase or party.
- During the week. Switch it to the day's set times or the live location of your pop-up.
- After the week. Point it to photos, a recap or a discount for people who stopped by.
All three stages use the same printed sticker or wristband card. Your three most recent earlier links sit under Previous links, so switching back is quick. Official festival areas have their own rules for signs and handouts; check with the organizer or venue before you post anything.
Food trucks and trailer parks
A food truck should put its code on the order window and point it to the menu, because people read while they wait in line. Trailers in parks across East Austin and South Austin also benefit from a second code that says where they will be next.
- Menu on the window. Link to a menu page or a single-column PDF. Update prices online, not with tape and a marker.
- Where we park this week. A code on the side of the truck opens your schedule or social profile.
- Reviews at pickup. Hand over the order with a small card that says “RATE THE TACOS”. The Google reviews QR code guide shows how to get the right link.
Texas sun fades cheap inks and heats vinyl. For a code that lives on the outside of a trailer, use UV-resistant vinyl or a laminated print, and place it out of direct afternoon glare if you can: a shiny code in bright sun can be hard for phone cameras to read.
Startups, coworking and the university crowd
Startups use QR codes for the parts of a launch that change fastest: demo links, pitch decks and sign-up forms. At a meetup or a demo day, one code on a slide or a table sign saves people from typing a URL you will rename next month.
- Demo day table. Point the code at your beta waitlist today and at the public product page after launch.
- Pitch deck back page. Link to a data room or a short video; replace the link when you raise the next round.
- Campus flyers near UT Austin. Student clubs and landlords can link to a sign-up form each semester, then switch to the next one without new posters. Check the university's and building managers' posting rules first.
- Coworking notice boards. A single code can open the event calendar for the whole space.
Create and print your Austin code
Copy the page people should land on
Your show calendar, truck menu or waitlist form. Open it in a private browser window first to be sure it loads without a login.
Paste it at the top of this page
The field is The link to turn into a QR code. The warm sunset preset and a “SCAN FOR TONIGHT” frame load by default; edit the frame label on the Frame tab.
Add your logo if you want
Upload it on the Logo tab. Watch for Scans correctly before you move on; if it disappears, shrink the logo or raise the contrast.
Download and keep the code in your account
Click Download QR code, sign in for free with Google or email, and grab an SVG for stickers and banners.
For stock, finishes and sizes, read the guide to printing QR codes before you send files to a print shop.
Sizes that work around town
| Where | Typical scan distance | Code width |
|---|---|---|
| Food truck order window | 2-3 ft (60-90 cm) | 2.5-4 in (6-10 cm) |
| Gig poster on a pole or board | 3-5 ft (1-1.5 m) | 4-6 in (10-15 cm) |
| Merch table card | 1-2 ft (30-60 cm) | 1.5-2.5 in (4-6 cm) |
| Festival wristband card | 8-12 in (20-30 cm) | 1-1.2 in (2.5-3 cm) |
Keep the white quiet zone around the code (4 modules by default) and never crop it to fit a design. If the code faces bright sun, a matte print is easier on cameras than gloss.

Questions
How do I make a QR code for an Austin music venue?
Copy the link to your show calendar or ticketing page, paste it into the linqr creator and wait for Scans correctly. Click Download QR code, save it to a free account and print an SVG for posters. When shows are added, update the calendar or change the code's link in My codes; the posters stay the same.
Can I reuse one QR code for SXSW and ACL in Austin?
Yes. A linqr code is dynamic, so the same printed sticker can open your March showcase RSVP, then a recap page, then your fall festival plans. Change the link in My codes with Change link whenever you need. Link changes are unlimited on every plan, including Free.
What should an Austin food truck link its QR code to?
Most trucks link the window code to their menu, because people read it while they wait. A second code on the side of the truck can open a weekly location schedule or a social profile. Keep menus light to load on mobile data: a web page or a one-column PDF works best.
Will a QR code sticker hold up in the Austin heat?
The code itself has no expiry date, but the print can fade. Use UV-resistant vinyl or a laminated print for anything on the outside of a truck or a patio. A matte finish helps phones read the code in bright sun. Test a sample outdoors in the afternoon before you order a batch.
Is linqr based in Austin?
No. linqr is an online QR code generator run by a company with its office in Katowice, Poland. It works the same for businesses anywhere. You create codes on the website and print them with any Austin print shop or your own printer using the SVG, PNG or, on Pro, PDF and EPS files.
Can Austin startups track scans from a demo day QR code?
Yes. Every linqr code counts total and unique scans and shows a 30-day chart, top countries and devices on the Free plan. Pro adds cities, the hours and days of scans, a full year of history and CSV export. Bots and link previews are excluded, so a demo day spike reflects real visitors.
How big should a QR code be on an Austin gig poster?
For a poster on a board or pole read from 3-5 ft away, a code about 4-6 in (10-15 cm) wide is a safe start. A useful rule is one tenth of the scanning distance. Leave the white margin around the code intact and scan a test print before postering the whole street.
Can students at UT Austin use linqr for club flyers?
Yes. The Free plan gives 3 active dynamic codes with no trial and no card, so a club can print flyers once and point the code to a new sign-up form each semester. Check the university's posting rules and each building's policies before putting flyers up.
Does linqr take payments for tip jars at Austin shows?
No. linqr doesn't process payments. The code opens whatever link you set, such as a band's own payment or tipping page. If that page changes, you update the link in My codes and the printed card on the tip jar keeps working.
What happens to my Austin QR codes if I stop paying for Pro?
The terms of service, linked in the footer, set out what happens to codes when Pro ends. linqr codes have no expiry date, and the Free plan has no trial: it covers 3 active codes with unlimited scans and link changes, which is often enough for one truck or venue.
